R&D Center

Constant challenge and passion to create the bright future of advanced materials.

Introduction & Research Areas

The CEPLA R&D Center is located in the Asan production plant, and total 15 researchers, including three Ph.D. researchers, are dedicated to new product development, testing and customer services.

Since established in 2010, the CEPLA R&D Center has developed a variety of high-performance plastic composite materials for automotive parts in collaboration with the CREA, a subsidiary of CEPLA, and has registered more than 60 GM material specifications (GMW SPEC) as of 2021.

In particular, in 2019, the CEPLA R&D Center succeeded in developing airbag chute materials that had been exclusively supplied to domestic and global automakers by Japanese companies over past several decades. CEPLA’s high-quality and performance airbag chute materials have been successfully registered to GMW SPEC and delivered to GM, attracting much attention from the automotive industry as a success story to overcome the overseas dependence of high-specialty automotive materials.

Under the goal of creating customer-demanding values with technology, the CEPLA R&D Center is accelerating the development of eco-friendly, lightweight materials and special functional materials to enhance the competitiveness and sustainable growth of our customers as well as CEPLA itself.

To this end, the CEPLA R&D Center is currently committed not only to developing high-performance polypropylene (PP) composites and recyclable or biodegradable plastics but also to constructing a line-up for engineering plastic materials. In addition, the CEPLA R&D Center is also dedicated to developing functional plastic and elastomeric composites applicable to electrical and electronic components as well as automotive parts.
